Docker announced on November 16th (US time) in “Apple Silicon M1 Chips and Docker – Docker Blog”, what kind of issues will Docker support for Apple M1 in “Docker Desktop for Mac”, a tool that can build a Docker container environment on Mac I told you if there is. It seems that it will take some time before the official product comes out, but it briefly explains what stage it is at and what remains as an issue.
The main points of what Docker explains are as follows.
- Docker Desktop uses Go for its backend and Electron for its dashboard. These projects are currently working on Apple M1 and Docker is focusing on the progress of these projects.
- We need to build an automated test environment to ensure product quality, and we are currently working on it.
- Need to support Apple’s new hypervisor framework
- Need to work on simplifying multi-architecture builds
There is no time schedule for when to release Docker Desktop for Mac officially compatible with Apple M1, probably because it depends on the compatibility of the software used by Docker Desktop for Mac. However, it seems that there are no major problems that hinder development, and it is expected that Docker Desktop for Mac compatible with Apple M1 will be released at some stage.
